This is a part-time position at 28 hours per week. This is also a limited appointment position with an end date of September 30, 2011. This position is grant funded and is not eligible for severance pay. The Department of Health Education is seeking a Suicide Prevention Coordinator who is knowledgeable of health education and prevention for a college aged population. The Department of Health Education is responsible for providing appropriate health education information and programming on a number of topics of concern to college aged students including: substance abuse and addiction; stress management; eating disorders and nutrition; sexual and reproductive health; violence prevention; and mental health education including information on depression and suicide prevention. The Coordinator is responsible for creating long-term change in students attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors about suicide. She/he will create universal suicide prevention programming along with prevention programming focused on the needs of students of color, and GLBT, international and women students. The Suicide Prevention Coordinator will:
- Coordinate Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Suicide Prevention Grant
- Develop a campus-wide suicide prevention campaign focused on reducing stigma, increasing help seeking
- Recognizing help-seeking behavior as well as signs and symptoms of depression
- Work with the six Culture Centers to increase help-seeking behavior and reduce stigma
- Develop parent suicide prevention newsletters
- Prepare reports to the Director of Health Education
Basic Requirements:
- Masters degree in community health, health education or related field
- Two (2) years of related experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Background in providing programming, education and information on suicide prevention and depression
- Demonstrated experience in using a public health approach to create environmental change
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and presentations skills
- Prior work with college aged population
Preferred Qualifications: More than two (2) years of experience. Experience in coordinating federally funded grants is highly desirable.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Part time, four days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with one-hour for lunch. Occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
