Position Description

Function of Position: The Assistant Director reports to the Director of the Counseling and Advising Center. Responsibilities include assisting the Director in the supervision of the College-wide placement testing program, the coordination of counseling services, and serving as a liaison to the Housing and Residence Life and Health Services Departments. The Assistant Director is expected to maintain open, collaborative, and effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and other constituents. This position requires working at least one evening each week and an occasional Saturday.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the College Placement Testing Program, which includes the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data related to placement testing.
  • Supervise Placement Testing staff.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to Residence Hall students.
  • Provide career and personal counseling to students.
  • Assist with academic advising and walk-in services.
  • Facilitate Counselor Supervision meetings; assist in the development of mentorship/professional development initiatives for counselors and data analysis of counseling services.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and students in the development and implementation of relevant student programming.
  • Assist in the development and partnering of community resources and referrals.
  • Assist in the coordination of special projects and direct service functions and initiatives for counseling services.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in counseling or related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a student personnel and/or college/university setting.
  • Evidence of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding and experience in the use of educational and psychological tests.
  • Strong supervisory/administrative experience in a community college setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a seamless educational process and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with student information systems and computer software.
